Engagement invitation wording ideas?

If you don't care about using the word engagement, just call it an open house or BBQ and invite those who you want to celebrate your engagement with. That way you don't have to make any reference to gifts and if people ask if they should bring food, you can say yes or no. Even if you do call it an engagement party, you don't really have to say no gifts please because most people would just bring a card or wine, not an actual gift. Until you make a gift registry at some store, they don't know what to get you ;)
