Were republicans hoping Obama wouldnt take the lead on the debt talks?

Obama is supposed to be the leader and heretofore he has had the answer to all problems with his gift of gab. Now let's see what his proposal is to fix the budget and debt problem. If he talks his way out of the mess he has made by not participating then he deserves to continue in office for the rest of his life.
