About the myth that U.S. lost in Vietnam because they fought with conventional warfare?

I can only give you a limited perspective from the eyes of a draftee infantryman 101st ABN Hue Phue Bai 68/69. Army infantry units sounded like a heard of buffalo coming down a jungle trail with steel helmets jangling , rucksack loaded, Prc radio blaring and so we were no surprise to the NVA that we were around. There was not much motivation in a conscripted Army when we all knew our friends were partying back home and life never changed for them but for us it did big time and the chances were that we may die 10,000 miles from home and all alone. The NVA waited and picked us off like flys and then ran away and vanished but they would lock heels with you and fight if they had you outnumbered. Vietnam was a nightmarish plunge into the depths of hell and shock for Americans boys and unlike their foe who had been preparing for jungle warfare all his life they could never get aclimated to the jungle mentally. I can only look back with sadness the year I spent there and the waste of lives and the heartbreak back home of these families who lost their loved one. I think the US military fought the war in Vietnam with both hands tied and a blindfold choosing not to bomb the Haiphong habour loaded with weaponry for our enemy. I think Summers is correct.
